Long Beach Heritage is proud to introduce Moonlight & Music, a new free monthly summer concert series as part of Summer of Architecture, set beneath the stars at the historic Bembridge House.
Held in the charming backyard Peppertree Court, this series invites the community to gather for relaxed, open-air evenings filled with live music, local talent, and the unmistakable ambiance of one of Long Beach’s most beloved historic spaces. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, low chairs, and their favorite picnic fare while enjoying performances staged from the home’s picturesque back porch.

This year's Turn-of-the-Century edition offers a rare opportunity to explore historic homes from the early 1900s in various stages of preservation. Some have been lovingly restored to their former glory, while others are actively undergoing rehabilitation, revealing the challenges and triumphs of saving Long Beach's architectural heritage.
Unlike traditional home tours that showcase only finished projects, Preservation in Progress tells the complete story. Guests will experience firsthand what it takes to preserve a historic home—from uncovering original details and repairing decades of wear to navigating restoration projects and bringing these treasured buildings back to life.

Pine Avenue is the heart of Downtown Long Beach and the North Pine Walking Tour is offered three times a year (February, May, August) to highlight the architecture and perpetual growth of this historic commercial corridor between 4th and 8th streets. Join us to learn about some of Pine Avenue’s earliest extant buildings, including restoration and adaptive reuse projects like the Professional Building, Walker Department Store Lofts, the Kress Building, Temple Lofts, the Press-Telegram Building, and more.

Art Deco Walking Tour with John Thomas

Downtown Long Beach will host the Long Beach Heritage’s Art Deco walking tour on Saturday, August 8th, 2026. The event will showcase the wealth of buildings downtown that were built in the Art Deco and Streamline Modern Styles of the 1920s and 1930s.
Featured will be the Metropolitan Apartment Building, Rowen/Bradley Building, the US Post Building, and the WPA Mural. Participants will be able to view the inside of the Lafayette building, originally built in 1929. The facades of several of Long Beach’s
buildings were replaced with these new styles following the earthquake of 1933.
Noted Art Deco Expert, Author, and past President of the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles, John Thomas, will lead the tour and share his expertise. Mr. Thomas will highlight significant events of Long Beach History and the Art Deco era. He will also discuss prominent architects of the time, Cecil Schilling, Horace Austin, Nate Piper and Hugh Davies, and their contributions to the architecture of Long Beach.

Learn about Bluff Heights hidden history on a guided walking tour followed by a PICNIC LUNCH in Bixby Park!
This informative, docent-led walking tour will explore the early human history of Bluff Heights, starting with native Tongva tribes followed by early Twentieth Century history of our neighborhood and growth of Long Beach. Our knowledgable guides will also share interesting facts about the lost Pacific Electric Railway, once the most sophisticated electric railway system in the world more than a century ago.
Our tour will stop to see our historic interpretive panel at JugBand so you see the Pacific Electric Railway map and learn about the interesting history of the Bungalow Grocery along with other historic landmark buildings along Broadway. We'll also quickly explore the Lowena Drive historic district and explore the unique Chateauesque Architecture before ending around lunchtime with refreshments and a light picnic social at Bixby Park's Saturday farmers’ market.
